What happens in the episode

The latest episode sends Bullseye back into the middle of the action, and this time his target is Vanessa. He blames her for turning him into a pawn and for setting in motion the chain of events that led him to kill Foggy Nelson in the first episode of Born Again Season 1. Subtlety, naturally, is not his thing.

He picks Fisk’s boxing match against Matter Horn as the perfect moment to strike. The press is already packed in to watch the Mayor trade punches in a charity fight that gets messier by the second, especially after Kingpin takes a right hook. While the room is distracted, Bullseye throws a glass statue of Fisk at Vanessa.

Daredevil appears to stop it in mid-air, but the damage is already done. A large piece of glass is left embedded in Vanessa’s head.

Daredevil then makes his exit by launching himself and Bullseye out of a window, while Fisk screams for an ambulance. The episode ends there, with Vanessa looking very much like someone who is not having a good day.

So is Vanessa dead?

The show leaves that answer hanging. Based on the final moments of the episode, she certainly looks close to death, but Daredevil: Born Again stops short of confirming it outright.

What happens to Vanessa in the comics

In the comics, Vanessa does not die from Bullseye’s attack, because Bullseye does not kill her that way. Her death comes much later, and it is from an unknown illness.

So if the series is following the source material, it is already taking a different route. Which, to be fair, is usually what these shows do right when fans start comparing notes.
