Marvel is eyeing the multiplex

Marvel Television boss Brad Winderbaum says he wants Disney Plus shows to get theatrical releases, and he is already looking at Daredevil: Born Again as the most obvious test case. Because apparently one screen is no longer enough when you can rent a bigger one and call it a strategy.

Speaking on The Escape Pod podcast, Winderbaum was asked whether he wanted to follow Netflix’s recent playbook, which has put select episodes of major shows in cinemas. His answer was not exactly subtle.

"I want to do that so bad," Winderbaum said. "Maybe we could do it for the finale of Daredevil… We gotta do it."

Why the idea has some traction

There are still four episodes left in the current season before the story reaches its end, so nothing is set in stone yet. But the idea does have a financial logic to it. Netflix’s limited theatrical run for the Stranger Things season 5 finale pulled in $25 million around New Year’s Day, which is the kind of number that tends to make executives sit up a little straighter.

Netflix also gave One Piece season 2 an early cinema outing in February, showing its first two episodes on the big screen. That makes Winderbaum’s pitch feel less like a one-off brainstorm and more like part of a growing experiment in treating streaming shows as event viewing.

For now, though, Daredevil: Born Again is still headed toward its finale the normal way, episode by episode, one week at a time. If that changes, the theater may get its own chance to meet the Man Without Fear.
