A very small tease for a very large problem
Frank Castle is heading back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Marvel has started the warm-up with a teaser so brief it practically qualifies as a legal disclaimer. The first look at The Punisher: One Last Kill is only a few seconds long, but it still delivers the one thing Punisher fans were hoping for: Frank Castle doing what Frank Castle does best, which is making life unpleasant for everyone around him.
The teaser appears at the end of the latest trailer for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, beginning around the 1:40 mark. It does not give away much, because apparently Marvel remains committed to the ancient art of telling you almost nothing while looking confident about it.
Jon Bernthal’s Punisher is coming back in more than one place
Jon Bernthal is not just returning for The Punisher: One Last Kill. He is also set to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day in July, with the special acting as the bridge between Frank’s appearance in Daredevil: Born Again season 1 and his role in the Spider-Man film.
At the moment, Marvel is keeping the details of the special under wraps. That said, the upcoming Spider-Man movie may offer a clue about the kind of energy Frank Castle will bring to the next phase of his MCU run.
Tom Holland recently talked up Bernthal’s return, saying, “I am so excited for people to see Jon Bernthal as the Punisher in this movie. He’s come from a very different world, you know, the R-rated kind of universe, and we’ve basically picked him up and plonked him into our world. And he absolutely sings in this movie. He is incredible.”
What comes next
The Punisher: One Last Kill is scheduled to premiere on Disney Plus on May 12, 2026, shortly after the current run of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 wraps. After that, Bernthal’s Frank Castle returns again in Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31.
For now, Marvel has offered a teaser that is short on specifics and heavy on implication. In other words, exactly the kind of preview designed to make fans immediately ask for the full thing.
