Pedro Pascal debuts a clean-shaven Oscars look

Pedro Pascal arrived at the 2026 Academy Awards looking noticeably different. The 50-year-old actor shaved off his mustache and embraced a sleek, clean-shaven appearance on the Dolby Theater red carpet on March 15. The ceremony was hosted by Conan O'Brien.

Instead of a classic tuxedo jacket, Pedro chose a custom Chanel ensemble: a jacketless tuxedo shirt finished with a starburst floral brooch made from silk and feathers. The change in facial hair made the whole look feel new and sharp.

Onstage and backstage moments

Pedro and Sigourney Weaver, 76, took the Oscars stage together to present Best Production Design. The trophy for that category went to Canadian art director Tamara Deverell for Frankenstein.

Backstage, Danny Ramirez — Pedro's co-star in the upcoming film De Noche, directed by Todd Haynes — had kind words for him. Danny told reporters, "Pedro is a saint." He also joked about the facial hair change, saying, "He lent me his mustache, which is very kind of him."

Danny, who publicly confirmed his relationship with Jessica Alba last November, joined Jessica at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party along with other stars such as Kim Kardashian and Hailey Bieber.

Who won and who changed looks

The ceremony itself handed the top acting prizes to Michael B. Jordan for Best Actor and Jessie Buckley for Best Actress. As is tradition, many attendees swapped outfits between the awards and the afterparties. Some memorable switches included:

  • Jessie Buckley swapping her custom Chanel gown for a sparkling black after-party look.
  • Michael B. Jordan sticking with standout fashion across his two looks.
  • Kate Hudson changing from a turquoise Armani Privé dress to a chic two-piece for the party.
  • Teyana Taylor and Keke Palmer opting for fresh looks after the ceremony.
  • Elle Fanning bringing her sister Dakota Fanning as a plus one and doing a wardrobe switch.
  • Kylie Jenner, Nicole Kidman, Rose Byrne, and Zoe Saldana among others who swapped red carpet outfits for after-party ensembles.

Pedro's new clean-shaven face had fans doing a double-take, especially since he had been seen with facial hair most recently during his Super Bowl Halftime Show appearance with Bad Bunny on February 8.

Whether it was a style statement or a role-related change, Pedro Pascal's fresh look made the Oscars carpet feel a little more surprising this year.
