A reading, and one very familiar name
Hilary Duff says an at-home psychic session turned unexpectedly personal when Aaron Carter supposedly made an appearance after his death in 2022. Because apparently even the afterlife keeps tabs on teenage history.
Speaking on the Las Culturistas podcast on April 1, the Lizzie McGuire alum said she called a psychic who did not know who she was at the start of the conversation.
“I talked to this psychic on the phone, and she doesn’t know who you are when you call,” Duff said. “Eventually, she figured it out.”
According to Duff, the psychic’s identification process began when Carter came through during the session.
“She’s, like, ‘Well, people are gonna start showing up for you. And there’s someone here. Aaron-two As,’” Duff recalled. “I was like, ‘Oh my god.’”
Duff said she then asked whether the presence was Carter, the singer known for songs including “Aaron’s Party” and “Oh Aaron,” whom she dated on and off from 2000 to 2003 after they met on the set of her Disney Channel series.
“She was, like, ‘Sure is. What the hell’s he doing here?’” Duff said. “I was like, ‘Well, that’s my childhood boyfriend. And that would make sense to me.’ And, she’s like, ‘Are you Hilary Duff?’”
Duff did not share whatever message, if any, Carter had for her. Still, she described the whole thing as “a really wild experience.”
Why the visit mattered to Duff
The moment carried extra weight for Duff because she remains close with Carter’s twin sister, Angel Carter. Duff said the two have kept in touch over the years, and that their children attend the same school.
“Our kids go to the same school,” Duff said. “She’s a lovely literal angel of a person. We’re very close. We talk about Aaron often.”
Duff is a mother to son Luca, 13, with her ex-husband Mike Comrie, as well as Banks, 7, May, 4, and Townes, 22 months, with her husband Matthew Koma.
Carter died in 2022 at age 34 after accidentally drowning in a bathtub.
Duff’s tribute after Carter’s death
Following his death, Duff posted a message on Instagram remembering her former boyfriend and childhood crush.
“For Aaron- I'm deeply sorry that life was so hard for you,” she wrote, “and that you had to struggle in-front of the whole world.”
“You had a charm that was absolutely effervescent...boy did my teenage self love you deeply,” she added. “Sending love to your family at this time. Rest easy.”
For reasons known only to psychics and the internet, stories like this tend to attract company. But Duff’s account also points to something more grounded: some relationships, especially the early ones, do not exactly fade quietly.
