Rotten Tomatoes has a new MCU front-runner

Just one week into its run, Daredevil: Born Again season 2 has been named the MCU’s second-highest rated live-action series. The catch, and naturally the part people are arguing about, is that the top spot still belongs to Ms. Marvel.

With a 98% Rotten Tomatoes score, Ms. Marvel is narrowly ahead of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, which sits at a very respectable 94%. So yes, the numbers are good across the board. The internet, however, does not appear to care about harmony.

Why Ms. Marvel still ranks so high

Starring Iman Vellani, Ms. Marvel follows Kamala Khan, a New Jersey teenager and Avengers superfan who discovers a mystical bangle that gives her powers of her own. From there, she learns she comes from a long line of heroes tasked with protecting the world from interdimensional beings, which is already a lot to handle before homework and other teenage chaos enter the picture.

The series was also praised for being a bright, character-driven origin story, with Kamala gradually stepping into the role of protector while trying to keep the rest of her life from falling apart in the usual teen-television way. Marvel, as always, managed to make saving the world look emotionally complicated and slightly inconvenient.

Fans immediately started disputing the ranking

Some viewers were quick to question how Ms. Marvel ended up in the top spot. One wrote, “Love Iman and the characters in general, but Ms Marvel might be my least favorite MCU show. IDK how it has the highest rating.” Another argued, “Loki should be number 1. Ms. Marvel is not supposed to be in the top 8.”

A third added, “I just saw it was Ms Marvel… I don’t hate the show, but it shouldn’t be no.1. No.5 maybe if we’re going season by season.”

Not everyone was upset, though. Some fans pointed out that the show may simply resonate with its intended audience more than some of the franchise’s bigger, broader entries. One viewer wrote, “Ms. Marvel is a very fun TV show to watch, but it was made for teenage girls. If you’re neither, you probably won’t like it.” Another said, “I don’t think Ms. Marvel is the best MCU show but idk, RT is based on just how many people liked it to some degree. And I can see most everyone finding some enjoyment in it.”

One especially enthusiastic fan went even further: “It’s Ms Marvel, and if you understand Marvel lore you’ll know she has one of the best origin stories to be depicted on tv, up there with Tony Stark’s origin story.”

What happens next for Ms. Marvel

Despite the acclaim, there are currently no plans for a second season of Ms. Marvel. That does not mean Kamala Khan is going away anytime soon. She already crossed over from Disney Plus to the big-screen MCU in The Marvels, and she is widely expected to show up again alongside other young heroes.

That could mean some future team-up time with Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop, Dominique Thorne’s Ironheart, and Joe Locke’s Billy Kaplan in a potential Young Avengers project down the line. Marvel has not exactly rushed that part, but the setup is there, which is usually enough to keep fans busy for a while.

For now, Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is airing Tuesday nights in the US and Wednesday mornings in the UK. The rankings may be contentious, but the episodes are, at the very least, arriving on schedule.
