IEM Rio 2026 at a glance

IEM Rio 2026 starts on April 13 and runs through April 19, putting Counter-Strike’s top teams in Brazil for one of the biggest events before the IEM Cologne 2026 Major in June. It is also the first Tier 1 CS event in Brazil since IEM Rio 2024, which feels like a long wait for a scene that does not usually enjoy waiting.

The biggest storyline is simple: Vitality could wrap up the $1,000,000 ESL Grand Slam here. If they do, they would become the first roster to win the Grand Slam twice, and they would technically do it in a single year. Not exactly a modest achievement.

The prize structure leans heavily on Club Share, which is prize money allocated directly to organizations. That setup clearly did its job for ESL, since it helped pull major European orgs to South America.

What to expect

The obvious prediction is that Vitality are the team to beat. At this point, the question is less whether they can win the Grand Slam and more when they decide to collect it. Rio is their first chance, and if they take it, the idea of a second Grand Slam in the same year suddenly stops sounding ridiculous.

Vitality already look miles ahead of the field, something they reinforced with a 3-0 win over NAVI at BLAST Open Rotterdam. They are also set to appear at IEM Atlanta in May and the IEM Cologne 2026 Major, so the opportunity to finish the job is already there.

The real interest sits behind them.

  • NAVI enter after winning EPL Season 23 and reaching the grand final at BLAST Rotterdam, with hopes of solidifying their place as world number two and closing the gap to Vitality.
  • FURIA, Falcons, and Spirit will want to show improvement after uneven starts to the year.
  • Falcons, in particular, need their talk about better team play to turn into something visible on server. Novel idea, apparently.
  • FURIA will have the home crowd behind them in the playoffs, but only if they survive the group stage first.
  • MOUZ need a rebound after their slump following the Pro League loss to FUT, which was followed by a last-place finish at BLAST.
  • Aurora come into the event after looking worn down at DracuLan, and with roster-change rumors circling the organization, their Tier 1 form will be under close watch.

IEM Rio 2026 has the ingredients for a major pre-Major checkpoint: a loaded field, a big prize pool, and one team staring at a record-setting achievement. The rest of the bracket will mostly be trying to prevent that from becoming official.
