The Sanctum of Absolution in Crimson Desert is worth the trip. It sits southwest of Hernand City, directly south of Scholastone Institute, and clearing it requires defeating the optional boss Antumbra's Sword. Take this guide as your polite shove in the right direction so you do not learn everything the hard way.

Getting There and What to Expect

The Sanctum is a fair walk from the city. If you have explored the area, you can use the nearby Abyss Nexus fast travel point to cut down travel time. The grounds are crawling with Umbra forces, but you can ignore most of them and head straight for the main courtyard. The Sanctum will remain unclean until Antumbra's Sword is defeated, so clearing every grunt is optional and time consuming.

Preparation Checklist

Antumbra's Sword is a tough optional boss. If you are early in the game, consider spending time to upgrade before you fight. At minimum, do the following:

  • Carry at least three Palmar Pills to continue the fight if you get downed.
  • Refine your gear so weapons and armor are at tier three or four.
  • Unlock Focus level 3 by investing Abyss Artifacts into the focus node on the skill tree. This is central to the main strategy.
  • Bring plenty of healing food. Clear soup works well.

Core Fight Strategy

The straightforward trick is to bait a normal sword attack, enter Focus mode, and convert that attack into a guaranteed parry. How to do that:

  • Enter Focus mode by pressing both analog sticks on a controller, or press the X key on keyboard.
  • When Antumbra's Sword winds up a normal attack, keep the character in Focus and spam the block button - LB on Xbox, L1 on PlayStation, or CTRL on keyboard. With Focus level 3 this produces a guaranteed parry that staggers the boss.
  • After the stagger, unload a short combo, then re-enter Focus and repeat until the boss's poise bar fills and it becomes vulnerable for a longer window. Use that window to chain combos and deal heavy damage.

This method is reliable, but timing matters. Mistime your Focus or spam the block too early and the boss will punish you hard.

Attacks to Watch For

Antumbra's Sword has two unblockable or dangerous moves you must recognize.

  • Red-hued unblockable slash - When the boss gets a red glow, it is about to do an unblockable sword pattern. Dodge the vertical slashes by moving into the gaps between them.
  • Circular slash followed by clones - After a wide circular attack, the boss summons spectral clones that flood you with hits. Spam dodge to escape the flurry, then re-enter Focus mode as soon as the clone sequence ends.

Rewards for Winning

Defeating Antumbra's Sword drops an Abyss Artifact and the two-handed sword Vessel of Dark Pursuit. This weapon is strong enough to carry you through mid-game and into late-game if you keep improving it. The sword also grants a special attack called Wound of Darkness, mapped to the Turning Slash, which effectively gives you the boss's vertical slash move for your own use.

Sanctum Puzzle - Step by Step

With Antumbra's Sword down, the Sanctum puzzle unlocks. Here is a clear path through it.

  • Go up the stone staircase into the building opposite the boss arena.
  • Destroy the pile of clay pots to find the first Fusion Reactor Core. Use Axiom Force to pick it up and place it in your Kuku Pot.
  • Climb the platform ahead. The floor will break and drop you to a lower room. Avoid the fire trap, go right into the room, and grab the second Reactor Core floating above. Seal it in your Kuku Pot too.
  • Place the round pillar Reactor Core on one of the broken pillars. Climb on top of it and use an Aerial Force Palm to lock it into place.
  • Take the cube-shaped Reactor Core from your Kuku Pot and insert it into the square hole in the main machine. Use a Force Palm to secure it.

Completing these steps finishes the Sanctum of Absolution puzzle and rewards you with blueprints for the Enhanced Kuku Pot and the Kuku Spear.

Treasure Chest Room - How to Get In

There is a locked room with a chest that contains a neat piece of equipment. It sits just above where you smashed the clay pots for the first Reactor Core. To open it:

  • Stand in front of the locked door and charge a Focused Force Palm. Aim at the square-shaped indent on the wall. The hit flips that wall segment.
  • From outside the Sanctum, go to the other side of the cell. The flipped wall will be a few feet above the ground, forming a small platform. Use that platform and perform a Force Palm on the other part of the wall to flip it again and open the passage.
  • Enter and open the chest to claim the Sunset Reed Cloth Boots. They come with an interesting set of Abyss Gears you can equip or extract to use on other gear pieces.
  • To exit the room, light the stone lantern inside. The bars on the door will open and let you out.

That covers the Sanctuary run. If you follow the prep list, use Focus level 3 for the parry cheat, and watch for the red glow and clone sequence, you should walk away with a powerful two-handed sword and the sanctum rewards. Go clean that place up, and enjoy your new toy.
