Homelander calls in Soldier Boy
Prime Video is not exactly hiding the fact that the final season of The Boys plans to be a disaster for everyone involved. With the premiere only days away, the streamer has dropped a new teaser that brings Billy Butcher and his team face to face with Soldier Boy, all thanks to a direct order from Homelander.
The clip follows earlier footage of Homelander’s reunion with Soldier Boy, his genetic father, who has spent much of the series bouncing in and out of stasis like a particularly unstable lab experiment. In those earlier scenes, Soldier Boy was already taking a close, deeply unpleasant look at Homelander’s motives.
The order is simple
In the new teaser, Homelander cuts to the point: "I want you to find William Butcher."
That does not sound like the sort of errand that ends with a polite conversation.
The end of season 4 left Butcher and the rest of The Boys being tracked down as they scrambled to escape, and the trailers for season 5 show them back on the run. At this stage, the show is not so much setting up a finale as it is assembling a checklist of everyone who might suffer.
The stakes are higher than usual, somehow
Homelander has seized power in America and is now looking beyond control into conquest, with some kind of immortality apparently on the wish list as well. Which is, of course, exactly the kind of thing that tends to create a manageable workplace environment.
Showrunner Eric Kripke recently confirmed that production on season 5 is finally complete. Meanwhile, Jack Quaid, who plays Hughie, has been warning fans to expect bloody and shocking final-season carnage. Given the show’s history, that is less a spoiler and more a reminder that nobody should get too comfortable.
If the teasers are any indication, no one is truly safe this time around, and a few familiar faces may not make it to the end credits.
The Boys season 5 premieres on Prime Video on April 8.
