Crimson Desert, the open-world action-adventure from Pearl Abyss, looks to have a solid head start. Reports say the game sold close to 400,000 pre-launch copies on Steam and pulled in north of $20 million before it even hit shelves.

What the numbers say

Alinea Analytics shared the Steam snapshot through March 16, 2026. The key points:

  • Pre-launch copies sold: about 363,000, rounded up in some reports to nearly 400,000.
  • Gross revenue on Steam: over $20 million.
  • Single-day lift: roughly 10 percent of sales happened on March 16, which added about $2.6 million to the total.
  • Wishlists: the game sits at close to 2.2 million wishlists on Steam.

Denuvo stirred conversation, but devs answered

News that the PC version would include Denuvo anti-tamper software prompted some players to consider canceling pre-orders. Pearl Abyss responded quickly and said the footage, benchmarks, and performance videos people had seen were captured from the same Denuvo-enabled build. That did not end the debate, but it aimed to reassure players that preview content matches the shipping version.

Console support and what to expect at launch

Crimson Desert will launch on March 19, 2026. The game will also support the PS5 Pro upgraded PSSR at launch, which should interest players on PlayStation hardware. Pearl Abyss has released a launch trailer that leans into big boss encounters and cinematic combat.

What we do not know yet

  • Pearl Abyss has not published full sales figures across all platforms, so Steam numbers are only part of the picture.
  • Long-term player retention and post-launch performance remain to be seen.

If the Steam numbers are any guide, Crimson Desert arrives with healthy attention and a sizable pre-launch audience. The next confirmation will come from the developer when full platform sales are disclosed after launch.
