Adam Sandler is set to lead Time Out, a Netflix remake of the French psychological drama L'Emploi Du Temps. The film will be directed by Scott Cooper, who will also write the screenplay and serve as a producer. Christian Bale had been linked to the project earlier.
A notable supporting cast
The movie lines up a strong ensemble around Sandler:
- Willem Dafoe - Oscar nominee
- F. Murray Abraham - Oscar winner
- Gaby Hoffmann
- Steve Zahn
- Adam Horovitz
What the story covers
The original French film was directed by Laurent Cantet and Robin Campillo. It follows a man who loses his job but cannot bring himself to tell his wife and family. To hide the truth he keeps inventing lies. Those lies grow until he creates an investment scheme and asks friends to put money in.
Scott Cooper: writer, director, producer
Cooper recently directed Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, a film about the making of Bruce Springsteen's album Nebraska. It received respectful reviews but did not perform well at the box office. His past credits include Crazy Heart, which helped secure an Oscar for Jeff Bridges, and The Pale Blue Eye, which was released by Netflix. For Time Out, Cooper will handle directing duties and take on both writing and producing responsibilities.
Sandler and his Netflix era
Sandler has been a regular on Netflix, balancing broad comedies with more serious, artistic projects. His recent work for the streamer includes comedies like Murder Mystery and Happy Gilmore 2, as well as indie-leaning titles such as The Meyerowitz Stories and last year's Jay Kelly.
