Activision has started the Warzone last-gen phase-out in the least glamorous way possible: by turning off parts of the shop first. Beginning with Season 04 on June 4, 2026, Call of Duty: Warzone players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will no longer be able to buy BlackCell, COD Points, or certain local-currency items through the Warzone store.
The game will not vanish from those consoles on that date. Existing players can keep playing for a while. But the message is not subtle. Warzone’s future is being moved onto newer hardware, and the old machines are being shown to the exit with a calendar and a receipt.
What changes for Warzone on June 4?
Activision says the first stage begins on June 4, alongside Season 04. From that date, Call of Duty: Warzone will be removed from the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One digital storefronts. That means new players on those consoles will no longer be able to download or add the game to their platform libraries.
Players who already have Warzone in their library can still install and play it after that date, at least until the end of Season 06 for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. So this is not an immediate shutdown. It is more like the service putting up a sign that says new guests are no longer being seated.
The same June 4 update also cuts into monetization on last-generation versions of Warzone. Activision says items purchased with local currency will be removed from the Warzone in-game store and related menus on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. That includes:
- COD Points
- BlackCell
- Call of Duty League Operator Packs
- Other store items bought directly with local currency
For players who use only the PS4 or Xbox One version of Warzone, that means direct purchases through the battle royale client end as Season 04 begins.
How the Season 04 Battle Pass works on PS4 and Xbox One
The Season 04 Battle Pass is getting a narrow exception, but it comes with a deadline. Activision says PlayStation 4 and Xbox One Warzone players can still buy the Season 04 Battle Pass with COD Points they already have in their account. That option remains available only until June 25.
After June 25, the Warzone in-game store will be removed entirely from both last-generation console versions. At that point, players will no longer be able to redeem COD Points for Warzone store content on those platforms.
BlackCell is more limited. Starting with Season 04, BlackCell will no longer be available to purchase through the Warzone in-game store on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If you were hoping to wait and see how the season looks first, Activision has helpfully made the decision less flexible.
Gameplay on last-generation Warzone will still contribute to overall Battle Pass progression during the remaining Black Ops 7 seasons. Players who do not buy the paid Battle Pass will still be able to progress through free tiers, including new weapon unlocks.
In practical terms, Season 04 is the final paid Warzone Battle Pass window for people who rely only on Warzone through PS4 or Xbox One.
What happens after the June 25 store removal?
June 25 is the important date for Warzone-only players on last-gen consoles. Until then, COD Points can still be used for eligible Warzone store content on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. After that, the in-game store is gone from those versions.
The game itself will remain playable for existing users until the end of Black Ops 7 Season 06. During that remaining period, the last-gen version will be stripped down to the basics: gameplay, free Battle Pass progression, and content the player already owns.
Activision’s support notice makes clear that the change applies specifically to Call of Duty: Warzone on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Other Call of Duty titles that were released on those platforms will remain available to play.
That matters for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Activision lists Black Ops 7 as available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, in addition to current-generation consoles and PC. Players who own the full game on those older platforms may still have access to its supported menus and seasonal systems outside the Warzone store.
For Warzone-only users, though, the runway is short. The store closes first. The full loss of access comes later.
Why Activision is moving Warzone off older consoles
The broader transition is tied to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which Activision has scheduled for release on October 23, 2026. The game is planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and supported PC platforms.
Activision says Warzone will integrate with Modern Warfare 4 beginning with that game’s Season 1. Once that integration begins, Warzone will no longer be playable on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
That puts the June store restrictions in context. They are not a random storefront cleanup. They are the early steps in removing Warzone from hardware that launched in 2013, back when “live service” did not yet mean a permanent second job for players, developers, and patch-note readers.
Warzone has depended on a huge cross-generation audience for years, especially as the battle royale moved through multiple Call of Duty eras. But the technical and business direction is now clearly pointed at newer systems. The removal of new downloads, premium currency purchases, BlackCell, and then the entire in-game store is the formal transition before the final cutoff.
What carries forward if players upgrade?
Activision says progress and most purchased content will carry forward for players who move to a supported platform, as long as they continue using the same linked Activision account.
Content bought with COD Points is shared through the Activision account and should be available on supported platforms. COD Points themselves work differently: they are tied to platform accounts.
That means unspent COD Points from an unsupported console should be available on the newer console within the same console family when using the same account. For example:
- PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5
- Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S
Players switching platform families should pay closer attention, because the currency rules are not as simple as general account progression.
For now, last-gen Warzone players have a brief transition period. Anyone on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One who wants the Season 04 Battle Pass through Warzone needs to use existing COD Points before June 25. After that, the remaining experience on those consoles becomes limited, and Warzone’s next major chapter moves on without them.
