US demands for Iran
In an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio laid out what he described as Washington’s main demands for Iran.
Rubio said plainly that Iran must never acquire nuclear weapons. Not exactly a subtle message, but diplomacy has never been known for its mystery.
He also said Iran must stop “sponsoring terrorism”. In his view, Tehran’s short-range missiles are intended to threaten nearby countries, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar.
The remarks were published on 30 March 2026 and offered a clear snapshot of the Trump administration’s position: no nuclear weapon for Iran, and no patience for regional destabilization either.
