NetEase cracks down on macro users

Marvel Rivals may be built around superheroes, but NetEase says it has no interest in letting players behave like they have been assembled in a lab. The studio says it has spotted a growing number of cheaters in the third-person shooter and is preparing further bans for anyone it catches bending the rules in competitive play.

In a post on social media, NetEase said its anti-cheat systems had detected what it called “anomalies in the timestream,” explaining that some players are using mouse macros during matches. The studio said these tools allow users to perform “abnormal combo sequences” or to achieve “actions beyond normal human hand speed,” which, in less comic-book language, means an unfair advantage no one else agreed to sign up for.

The company did not frame this as a one-off issue. Instead, it said the pattern of cheating is increasing, and that it is taking the problem seriously as it tries to protect the game’s competitive scene. For a game about powered-up heroes, the message is apparently simple: the only superhuman abilities allowed are the ones the developers put there.
