Recon Shell changes are coming early

Bungie has a major Marathon update lined up for April 14, but the team decided to get ahead of the patch notes and show players a few of the changes now. The early preview focuses entirely on the Recon Shell, specifically the Echo Pulse and Tracker Drone abilities.

Echo Pulse will be easier to miss

In a post on X, the Marathon dev team said Echo Pulse will become less visible to enemies. The idea is simple enough: make it harder for opponents to tell whether they are close enough to be caught in the attack.

There is also a small wrinkle for Runners who have already used Signal Jammer. If Echo Pulse is activated after that, the Runner will appear as UESC.

Tracker Drone is getting more aggressive

Tracker Drone is also on the list for adjustments in the next patch. Bungie says the drone will have stronger tracking and will become more aggressive overall.

It is also getting a practical improvement: if the drone cannot reach its first target, it will be able to pick a new one. Which is exactly the sort of persistence players tend to notice when it is aimed at them.

The developers also confirmed that they plan to support Marathon for many years, so this is apparently just the beginning of the tuning cycle rather than the grand finale.
