Lights out on set, for now

Jensen Ackles has officially announced that filming on Vought Rising is done. He dropped a short Instagram video to celebrate, and yes, he sounded exactly like the charming chaos generator we know from The Boys. His caption summed it up: "Finishing out with a bang! It’s been an absolute thrill ride. Thanks to the crew, cast, and all those who gave so much time and energy to make this happen. You’re all a bunch of psychos…and I love you for it."

A suit with more neon than nostalgia

In the clip Ackles gives fans a peek at the lower half of Soldier Boy's new look. Goodbye deep green and gold; hello bright green trousers with red accents and boots. If that sounds like something a 1950s patriot would design after a few too many sodas, you are not wrong. Earlier photos revealed the top half too: a long green coat and a black mask, so the whole ensemble is definitely leaning into retro superhero vibes.

Back to the 1950s, and a little murder mystery on the side

Vought Rising is a prequel set decades before the timeline of The Boys. The show is billed as a murder mystery that explores the origins of Vought, and it follows the early careers of Soldier Boy and Stormfront. Expect a parade of retro supes with names that sound like wartime pilots or bad pulp-fiction characters, including Bombsight, Private Angel, and Torpedo.

One juicy bit of continuity fans love: both Soldier Boy and Stormfront were injected with an early version of Compound V, which means they basically do not age. That explains why the pair can show up in the 1950s wearing prop hats and still look the same nearly 70 years later. Also, fun fact for lore nerds: Stormfront has been active as far back as the Second World War.

When can you watch it?

There is no official release date for Vought Rising yet. So yes, more waiting, less crying. Meanwhile, The Boys season 5 is confirmed to return to Prime Video on April 8, so there will be fresh chaos to tide fans over.

Bottom line: filming is wrapped, Soldier Boy's wardrobe got a flashy reboot, and a 1950s murder mystery about corporate supes is on the way. Cue the retro costumes and dramatic trombone music.
