Blizzard’s latest joke has feathers and attitude
Watch out, Mephisto. Diablo 4 has introduced a new world boss for April Fool’s Day, and it is a giant chicken. Because apparently the underworld also has a poultry problem.
The limited-time event is being called April Fowl’s Day, and players have already been posting screenshots in the game’s official Discord showing off both the boss and the very strange loot it drops. I missed the short window to fight it myself, which is a shame, because this is exactly the sort of nonsense that makes seasonal gaming slightly more tolerable.
Meet Chik’han, The Fowl Beast
The boss is named Chik’han, The Fowl Beast, and Blizzard has turned the encounter into a feathered piñata full of joke items. Diablo 4 events usually work as a straightforward progression boost, handing out crafting materials and legendaries so everyone can feel productive for a few minutes. This one takes a hard turn away from that and into the barnyard.
Among the items players have seen is the Cluckonomicon, a staff that grants a mysterious Henlightenment buff when you lift loose stones around the world. There is also the Eggcecutioner, a scythe that makes slain enemies lay eggs for reasons Blizzard did not appear interested in explaining. One item even increases damage against poultry, which is an oddly specific bonus unless you are facing down Chik’han itself, in which case it is still oddly specific, just slightly more relevant.
A rare event in a slower event schedule
Diablo 4 has backed off its special events compared with its first year. These days, Blizzard often seems content to switch on bonus XP for a week and call it a day. That may be a sensible use of development time, but plenty of players still find those events underwhelming, especially once they have already cleared most of a season’s content.
That is why a joke boss with joke loot works better than it has any right to. It does not pretend to be a grand system overhaul. It is just a giant chicken dropping absurd gear, which is honestly a stronger pitch than some live-service roadmaps.
The achievement for defeating Chik’han is called "April Fowl’s Day 2026", which strongly suggests this is not meant to be a one-time prank. If Blizzard keeps bringing the bird back, Sanctuary may need to rethink its list of major threats. The Prime Evils take centuries to escape magical imprisonment. The chicken, by contrast, seems fully committed to returning and pecking the world down to nothing.
