The FIGC finally closes the book on Napoli-Como
Antonio Conte has been fined €6,000 by the Federal Prosecutor, almost two months after the Napoli-Como match that sparked the case. The decision concerns his behavior toward referee Gianluca Manganiello, from the Pinerolo section, during the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa quarterfinal played on 10 February 2026.
What the FIGC said
The explanation came through an official FIGC statement, which read:
"6.000 euro di ammenda per il Sig. Antonio CONTE per aver, in occasione della gara NAPOLI vs COMO disputata in data 10/02/2026 e valida per i quarti di finale di Coppa Italia Frecciarossa della stagione sportiva in corso, tenuto un comportamento grandemente ingiurioso e irriguardoso nei riguardi dell'arbitro dell'incontro."
In plain English, the federation judged Conte’s conduct to be highly insulting and disrespectful toward the match official. Football, as ever, does not lack for elegant ways of describing people losing their composure.
A match decided from the spot
The game itself ended 1-1 in regulation time. Baturina scored from the penalty spot, in a spot kick Conte strongly contested, before Vergara equalized.
Como then advanced after the shootout, where misses from Romelu Lukaku and Stanislav Lobotka proved decisive.
The long delay in the disciplinary decision now gives the episode an official ending, even if the match had already delivered its own. In Italian football, paperwork clearly works at its own pace.
