Konami has set the Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse release date for October 15, 2026, giving the gothic action series a neatly timed return just before Halloween. Subtle, it is not. Effective, probably.
The new 2D action-exploration game is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Steam on that date, with pre-orders now open for those platforms. A Nintendo Switch version is still planned for 2026, but Konami has not yet announced its exact date or when pre-orders will begin.
What did Konami announce at Xbox Games Showcase 2026?
The October date was spotlighted during the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, where Microsoft presented Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse as a new entry from Konami, Evil Empire, and Motion Twin.
Xbox described the game as a modernized 2D action-exploration title that keeps the classic Castlevania structure while adding faster movement, more flexible traversal, and new tarot-based Arcana abilities. In other words, the whip is still doing the family business, but Rose Belmont appears to be getting a more mobile toolset than some of her ancestors had to work with.
The platform lineup currently stands as:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- Xbox on PC
- Steam
- Nintendo Switch, with release details still to come
For now, the October 15 launch applies only to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Steam.
Who is Rose Belmont, and where is the game set?
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse takes place in Paris in 1499, 23 years after the events of Castlevania: Dracula’s Curse. The story follows Rose Belmont, daughter of the legendary vampire hunter Trevor Belmont.
Konami’s setup is appropriately miserable, as tradition demands. Paris is burning, creatures are emerging from the shadows, and Trevor and Rose are pulled into the chaos with the sacred Vampire Killer whip as a dark conspiracy begins to unfold.
The shift to 1499 Paris gives the series a new historical stage while keeping the core ingredients intact: monsters, inherited trauma, holy weapons, and a Belmont family member being asked to fix a supernatural disaster that everyone else would understandably prefer to avoid.
How does Belmont’s Curse change classic Castlevania combat?
Konami is pitching Belmont’s Curse as a faster and more fluid version of the franchise’s side-scrolling action formula. Rose’s whip is not only a combat weapon but also a traversal tool, letting players swing through environments and navigate levels with more agility.
The biggest new system is Arcana. Defeated bosses can be sealed into Rose’s tarot cards, then used later to unlock spells or special actions. That gives boss encounters a second function beyond the usual “survive the giant nightmare and move on” routine.
The game also leans into customization. Players will be able to adjust Rose’s fighting style using weapons from seven categories, along with relics that trigger different offensive and defensive effects. Taken together, these systems point to a Castlevania entry with more emphasis on player choice, exploration, and build variety than a straightforward retro revival.
Which bosses and enemies are returning?
Konami has confirmed several familiar Castlevania enemies for Belmont’s Curse, including Death, Medusa, and Carmilla. The game will also introduce new boss encounters, with Joan of Arc named among them.
That mix is doing two jobs at once: keeping longtime fans grounded in the series’ monster roster while giving Rose Belmont her own set of threats. The old villains are useful, after all. Nothing says “family legacy” quite like repeatedly fighting Death because he apparently refuses to update his calendar.
What comes with pre-orders and the Midnight Edition?
Pre-orders are now available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Steam versions. Konami has also detailed purchase bonuses and a special edition.
Early buyers or players who pre-order will receive the Alucard Style Costume. The Midnight Edition includes:
- The full game
- A digital sound and art gallery
- Trevor Style Costume
- Sypha Style Costume
- Family’s Grace relic
The bonus items tie the new game back to major legacy characters, particularly Trevor Belmont, Sypha Belnades, and Alucard. Konami is clearly aware that Castlevania nostalgia remains a very active resource, and it is not leaving that particular coffin unopened.
What is happening with the Nintendo Switch version?
The Nintendo Switch release is still planned for 2026, but it does not currently have a specific release date or pre-order window. Konami says those details will be announced later.
That leaves Switch players in a holding pattern while the other major versions move ahead with a confirmed October 15 launch. It is not unusual for release timing to vary across platforms, but for a game with such a clean seasonal slot, the missing Switch date stands out.
Until Konami says more, the situation is simple: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Steam players have a date and pre-orders. Nintendo Switch players have a promise and a calendar with several blank spaces.
Why does the 2026 timing matter for Castlevania?
Belmont’s Curse is arriving during a major anniversary year for the series. Konami notes that the original Castlevania launched in 1986 for the Family Computer Disk System, putting the franchise’s 40th anniversary in September 2026.
That timing gives Belmont’s Curse extra weight. In recent years, Castlevania has often remained visible through collections, remasters, and adaptations rather than through a major new side-scrolling installment. This release puts the Belmont family back in front of players with a new chapter, not just another carefully preserved museum wing.
With its October date, Paris setting, whip-driven traversal, and Rose Belmont in the lead, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is positioned as one of Konami’s key releases for 2026. The Switch version still needs its own update, but for most platforms, the next vampire hunt finally has a firm place on the calendar.
