Esports World Cup 2026 is packing in 25 of the biggest esports titles, and Call of Duty is back on the bill with two separate competitions: Black Ops 7 and Warzone. Because one major tournament apparently was not enough paperwork for everyone involved.
Black Ops 7 at EWC 2026
The Black Ops 7 event at EWC 2026 runs from Aug. 5 to Aug. 9 and carries a $1,800,000 prize pool. The field includes 16 teams, split across two phases:
- Group stage: Two groups of eight teams play in a double-elimination format. The top four from each group move on.
- Playoffs: A best-of-seven single-elimination bracket, ending with a best-of-nine grand final.
The 16-team lineup is built like this:
- 12 Call of Duty League teams
- 3 top CDL Challengers teams
- 1 winner from the EWC Last Chance Qualifier
The qualifying events for the Challengers spots and the Last Chance Qualifier both happen in July, near the end of the regular CDL season.
Black Ops 7 events tied to EWC 2026
- 2026 CDL Challengers Finals: July 17-19
- EWC Last Chance Qualifier: July 31 to Aug. 1
- EWC: Aug. 5-9
OpTic Texas enters as the defending EWC champion after winning EWC 2025. The team has also started the 2026 CDL season on solid ground, finishing second at both Majors so far. That said, the major winners from the season, Paris Gentle Mates at Major 1 and FaZe Vegas at Major 2, are also in the conversation heading into the event.
Warzone returns through the Resurgence Series
Call of Duty’s other lane at EWC 2026 is Warzone, which comes back through the Warzone Resurgence Series (WRS). This is a new 2026 circuit built around direct competition among some of the strongest teams in the scene.
EWC 2026 serves as the end point for the WRS season. Teams qualify throughout the year and then compete for a $1,000,000 prize pool. The path includes two LAN events and a dedicated EWC qualifier.
Warzone Resurgence Series schedule
- CoD WRS: Birmingham: March 28-29
- CoD WRS: Atlanta: May 16-17
- EWC qualifiers: June 2026
- EWC: July 29 to Aug. 1
Both the Birmingham and Atlanta events award five EWC qualification spots each. The main route into the tournament, though, is the EWC qualifiers, which provide 22 spots across multiple regions for a total field of 32 teams.
So far, the teams that have qualified from CoD WRS: Birmingham are:
- Team Falcons
- Los Corillos
- Virtus.Pro
- Ravens Esports
The fifth Birmingham qualifier was Twisted Minds, but that team is already set for the event as a title defender.
With Birmingham now complete, the WRS moves on to Atlanta in May, while the qualifiers begin on April 6.
