Why the VST stands out

The VST is the newest SMG to arrive in Black Ops 7 Season 3, and it does not exactly arrive with elegant handling or polite recoil. Compared with the other submachine guns, it kicks harder. That said, the right attachments turn it into a serious close-range threat, especially if you like moving fast and playing aggressively in Multiplayer.

One of the biggest reasons the VST is worth a look is its Akimbo option. That setup lets you run two SMGs at once, which is obviously a very subtle and balanced piece of game design. The tradeoff is that you lose ADS capability, so this build leans fully into point-blank combat where the gun can overwhelm enemies before they get a chance to react.

Before tuning the class, it is worth checking how to unlock the VST in Black Ops 7 and Warzone.

Best VST build in Black Ops 7

This loadout is built to tame the VST’s recoil while improving its effectiveness in the ranges where an SMG actually wants to live.

  • Muzzle: Hawker Series 45
  • Barrel: 10.5″ Bowen Conquer Barrel
  • Underbarrel: Quiver Control Grip
  • Stock: Akimbo VST
  • Rear Grip: Buffer Springs

Attachment breakdown

The Hawker Series 45 muzzle is here mainly to reduce vertical recoil, which is the first thing this gun needs help with. That steadier climb makes it easier to stay on target during longer bursts and keeps the VST from wandering off in the middle of a push.

The 10.5″ Bowen Conquer Barrel boosts damage range and bullet velocity, giving the weapon a little more reach than a standard SMG setup. It is still very much a close-range gun, but now it can perform more comfortably a bit outside the usual point-blank distance.

The Quiver Control Grip adds first-shot recoil control, extra vertical control, and less gun kick. In practice, that means the VST feels noticeably smoother as soon as you start firing, which is helpful when the gun already behaves like it has opinions.

Then comes Akimbo VST, the attachment that turns the weapon into a brutal close-quarters option. You give up precise ADS use, but on smaller maps that trade is easy to justify if your goal is to erase enemies quickly.

Finally, Buffer Springs adds both horizontal and vertical recoil control, rounding out the build and making the whole setup feel a little less chaotic.

If you are looking for a battle royale version instead, there is also a separate VST loadout for Warzone.

Best VST class setup in BO7

  • Secondary: Velox 5.7
  • Melee: Personal choice
  • Field Upgrade: Mute Field
  • Tactical: Stim Shot
  • Lethal: Semtex
  • Wildcard: Perk Greed
  • Perk 1: Gung Ho
  • Perk 2: Assassin
  • Perk 3: Dexterity
  • Perk Greed slot: Lightweight
  • Combat Specialty: Enforcer

Why this class works

The Velox 5.7 gives you a fast backup option if the VST runs dry in the middle of a fight, so you are not stuck staring at empty magazines while someone else enjoys the objective. Melee is left open because that slot is more preference than science.

Mute Field helps with lane pushes and spawn traps by keeping your footsteps from advertising your location. Stim Shot gives you a quick health boost after a gunfight, which is useful when your idea of cover is apparently “another enemy around the corner.” Semtex is there for clearing hardpoints and flushing out players camping objective spots.

The perk choices are all about maintaining speed and pressure. Gung Ho lets you sprint, slide, and fire more smoothly, which fits the SMG playstyle perfectly. Assassin rewards aggressive streak-hunting by highlighting enemies on streaks. Dexterity improves mantling, climbing, and overall weapon handling, so your movement stays sharp.

Perk Greed is what makes the rest of the setup possible by allowing an extra perk slot, and that extra slot goes to Lightweight for better movement speed. Combined with the rest of the build, that makes the VST even more dangerous in close-range fights.

With these perks equipped, you unlock the Enforcer Combat Specialty, which gives you a movement speed and health regeneration buff after each kill. For an SMG that wants to stay in motion and keep pressure on the enemy, that is about as useful as it sounds.
