Ubisoft and Netflix are rolling out a live-action Assassin's Creed series set in ancient Rome. Yes, real sandals and marble columns. The story will take place in 64 A.D., a year famous for a very large fire and even larger rumors about who was to blame.

Where and when this is happening

Production is staged entirely in Italy, with the series based at Cinecittà Studios. Filming began on March 9 and is scheduled to run through October 16. Netflix expects to premiere the show in 2027.

Why 64 A.D. matters

In 64 A.D. the Great Fire of Rome tore through the city for six days and destroyed or damaged more than half of it. Emperor Nero was widely blamed for the disaster at the time, which gives the series a dramatic historical backdrop. Whether the show will center on the fire, political fallout, or Assassin versus Templar style conflict has not been officially confirmed, so take plot guesses with a grain of salt.

Cast - who we know so far

Ubisoft and Netflix have been announcing actors in waves. Previously revealed names include:

  • Nabhaan Rizwan
