Alex Iwobi makes another move, this time off the pitch
Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has decided that football apparently is not enough of a second job. The 29-year-old has announced his debut rap EP, continuing a music career that has been building alongside his Premier League one.
Iwobi has been productive for Fulham this season, scoring four goals and adding three assists. So yes, he remains very much employed by the football side of his life. But he is also preparing to release his first full project as a rapper next week, two years after putting out his debut single.
‘17’ returns with a new project
As a rapper, Iwobi performs under the name 17, a reference to the shirt number he has worn at Arsenal, Everton and Fulham. He previously kept his music relatively quiet, releasing tracks undercover on YouTube. Since 2024, though, he has been sharing his songs more openly.
On Instagram, the Nigerian international posted the artwork for the EP, titled More To Life, along with the tracklist for the nine-song release. The project is set to arrive on April 9.
Two songs will feature Iwobi on his own. The remaining tracks include collaborations with 24am, Teniola Time, Gidi, Fido and SPKS.
Music as a break from football
Iwobi has already worked with other names from both football and music. He previously teamed up with fellow footballer Chuba Akpom, who used the alias Skoli, and also released Hop Out with British rapper Ramz.
For Iwobi, music is not just a side quest with a decent social media clip attached. He has described it as a form of therapy and a creative outlet that helps him step away from football for a while.
He also uses his songs to push positive messages. In 2024, that included Don’t Shoot, while his writing draws on experiences from childhood as well.
So, for now, Iwobi is juggling Premier League football, a growing rap catalogue and a public image that is becoming increasingly difficult to file under just one category. An exhausting schedule, but apparently manageable.
